Before…

Designers Willem Jacques Minnaar of BLASOEN and Clive Rundle took these pictures of old garments before giving them a second life for Capsule Projects’ Rock Me Again initiative. Rock Me Again JOHANNESBURG

9 December 2010

The Johannesburg leg of Capsule Projects’ Rock Me Again exhibition became a meeting point of media types and hipsters interested in seeing what a group of established and next-generation names in fashion could come up with for this sustainable design project. Pictured above is a sneak preview of the installation that is heading for Cape Town on Wednesday 15 December.

Rock Me Again

Model-citizens Ole, Noor, Chris, Thoko and Camila at the Rock Me Again photoshoot. We asked them what they do to show their support for the environment.

Ole
Ole

Half South Africa, half Malawian, Ole shows her support for the environment “by not littering”. Hmm, a little effort can go a long way.

Noor
Noor

From Kampen in Holland, Noor announced proudly that she drives an old-school MINI “that does not use a lot of petrol. It’s good for the environment and it saves money.” Needless to say, everyone at the studio nodded in agreement, especially when Noor placed extra emphasis on the word “old-school”.

Chris
Chris

Chris is from Cape Town’s northern suburbs and spends many an hour working in a coffee shop when he’s not standing in front of a camera. He is doing his bit for the environment by “taking my own bags to the supermarket.” We like that. Sweet and simple.

Thoko
Thoko

Thoko did not have to think long before letting us know that ” I switch off all the lights before I leave the house and I like to take the stairs instead of the lift.” Good man.

Camila
Camila

Camila is from Brazil, Porto Alegre (Ilma Da Pintada). In her own words: ” Since I was small I’ve been a nature conservation officer. I used to teach kids about recycling and reducing waste.” Welcome aboard, Camila.

Rock Me Again Rolls On

Rock Me Again. Behind the Scene with Isri
Rock Me Again. Behind the Scene with Isri

A behind-the-scene look at Dutch beauty Isri getting ready for Capsule Projects’ Rock Me Again publicity shoot. Born and bred in Groningen, she says she always takes her old clothes to a centre in her hometown that provides basic need services to people in Africa. Capsule Projects could not have asked for a more in-tune poster girl.
