Rock Me Again 2011 offered a select group of fashion designers the opportunity to take on the creative challenge of rethinking and reworking the form and function of old clothes (that were destined for the landfill) and to give them a contemporary aesthetic and a new life. The environment-friendly element was, of course, a welcome side-effect of the project and to this end vintage clothes also featured. However, it was the process of re-creation itself that was the primary stimulus of the project. Photographers, film-makers and image-makers pursued the cause alongside the designers.
All portraits are available for purchase. Capsule Projects, in association with Jameson Irish Whiskey, partnered on this project with Give Responsibly, the social development campaign run by the Cape Town Central City Improvement District. Through Give Responsibly, proceeds from the sale of all portraits will be channelled to organisations that are helping the destitute people in the city to change their lives.
